NOA flags off Nationwide Sensitization Campaign on 5 developmental issues, calls for national unity to tackle challenges

The National Orientation Agency NOA has called on Nigerians to unite to address critical issues that are central to the nation’s well-being, unity and development.

Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia State capital during the flag off of a Nation-wide Sensitization Campaign on the World HIV Day, Security Awareness, Discouraging Get-Rich-Quick Syndrome, World Human Rights Day and the Tax Reform Bills, the Director General of NOA Mallam Issa-Onilu represented by Director Public Enlightenment and Mass Mobilization NOA Abuja Mrs. Theresa Maduekwe said Nigerians must unite in their commitment to addressing the issues so as to foster a more informed, secure and ethical society.

The NOA DG maintained that on HIV for instance, the government cannot win the fight alone stressing that citizens must take advantage of the services provided by government and other entities, practice responsible health behaviours, as well as support those living with the disease.

Mallam Issa-Onilu maintained that efforts by Government to address insecurity which includes strengthening security architecture through improved equipment, training and increased funding, deploying technology through intelligence gathering require citizens’ support.

Speaking on the tax reforms bills currently before the National Assembly, the NOA Chief noted that reforming tax administration in Nigeria would amongst other benefits eradicate anomalies like multiple taxation and its impact on low income earners, engender simpler and more transparent tax processes as well as make visible the impact of tax payment on citizens.
