The Standup for Women Society has been inaugurated in Asaba, the State capital with a charge to stop adolescent prostitution and support for vulnerable women in the state.

The Omu Anioma, HRM Obi Martha Dunkwu gave the charge during the inauguration of the Delta State chapter of SWS and the unveiling of the psycho-social support for vulnerable women.

She said, “As women, we should bury our faces in shame, we have failed our nation. SWS should organise women to tender an unreserved apology to the nation. Do not rub shoulders with the men in anything, there is nothing like gender equality, going by how God himself patterned life around the man from creation.

“The story of creation did not talk about equality, I will never support equality but instead, I prefer to agitate for women to be supported by men to complement them and be allowed to fulfil their God-given potentials in life.”

Inaugurating the state chapter of SWS, the National President of the organisation, Mrs Deborah Ijadele, disclosed that Delta was the thirteenth state to be inaugurated in the country.

She said the main objective of the group was to liberate the girl-child from domestic violence and other forms of abuse against women.

In her post-inauguration remark, the State Chairman of the group, Mrs Stella Macaulay, pledged to stop adolescent prostitution in the next two years.

“We are fetching these categories of adolescents and youths out, so in the next two years, we are going to take them off the streets, give them a skill for those who do not want to go back to schools.

“But for those who want to go back to school, we will help them. After acquiring the skill, we will help them by meeting relevant organs both government and non-Governmental to support them.

“We met two sisters who were night hustlers trying to raise money to register for an exam, we linked them with a supermarket, they went for the interview and as I speak, they are working there.”
