About Boise University
The public research institution Boise State University (BSU) is located in Boise, Idaho. The Episcopal Church established it in 1932. It changed its status to a junior college in 1934 and began conferring bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 1965. The institution went public in 1969.
More than 100 graduate degree programs are available at Boise State, including the MBA and MAcc programs in the College of Business and Economics; master’s and Ph.D. programs in the Colleges of Engineering, Arts & Sciences, and Education; the MPA program in the School of Public Service; and the MPH program in the College of Health Sciences. The university’s intercollegiate sporting teams, known as the Broncos, participate in NCAA Division I’s Mountain West Conference (MWC). In the fall of 2016, 23,886 students enrolled at Boise State, with about 76 percent of them hailing from Idaho. The majority of first-year students at Boise State are recent high school graduates (more than 90%).
3,916 distinct graduates received diplomas from Boise State for the 2015–2016 academic year, including those with 18 doctorates, 10 education specialists, 670 master’s, and 2,998 bachelor’s degrees. The university is classified by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as having “High Research Activity.”
The Western Writers Series, a collection of monographs by writers from the American West and American Frontier, has been published by the university since 1971. Through the Albertsons Library, the university also keeps an online library of books and other materials about Idaho history.
To preserve the best works by early American West poets, Ahsahta, a non-profit literary publisher, was established at Boise State University in 1974. The Mandan word for it, ahsahta, was first used by members of the Lewis and Clark expedition and means “Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.” The press’s founding editors selected the word to honor the press’s initial goal of publishing Western poetry.

Eligibility for Boise State University Global Excellence Scholarship
Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for the Boise State University Global Excellence Scholarship in the United States:
- Applicants must be international students.
- students accepted into a bachelor’s degree program.
- For University-offered Undergraduate Courses, the Award is Available.
- Students taking up full-time enrollment in the honors program during the semester in which the prize is given.
- A high school diploma or its equivalent is required of applicants.
- Candidates need to have a strong sense of responsibility, be able to work independently in a systematic manner, and have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- A full-time program offer from Boise State University in the United States is required for applicants.
- Based on merit and leadership demonstrated during the application process.
- English Language Requirement: Applicants must show proof that they meet the university’s basic standards for English language competency.

The supplementary scholarship application as well as other admissions application materials must be submitted by the specified deadlines for students to be eligible for the Global Excellence and Global Distinction Scholarships.
