A Third Republic Senator in Nigeria and a politician in Abia State, Senator Emma Nwaka has expressed his profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for the posthumous national award of CFR he bestowed on Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (Rtd) on the occasion of the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations.

Senator Nwaka in a statement made available to Dailytrailnews noted that the award, which was in recognition of the active and fearless role played by R.Adm Kanu , not Navy Commodore as mentioned in citation),during the struggle for the actualisation of the presidential mandate which the people of Nigeria gave to the late, Chief MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993, is richly deserved.

Nwaka in the statement noted that at great risk to his life, and notwithstanding the great heights he had attained in life, both as a military officer and renowned administrator, R. Adm. NG Kanu was out there in the streets marching with fellow compatriots protesting the annulment of what has been described as the most most credible and free election Nigerians have ever witnessed.

R. Adm Ndubuisi Kanu, it will be recalled was the first Military Administrator of the old Imo State.

The statement maintained that the blueprint R. Adm Ndubuisi Kanu put together was currently guiding the development of Imo State to date.

He also served as the military governor of Lagos State. He was, at some point, the youngest member of the Armed Forces Ruling Council of Nigeria. Like Senator Emma Nwaka, R. Adm Kanu, hailed from Isuikwuato in Abia State.
