Tragedy in Umuahia: How Mentally deranged Man Killed Mother, Twins in Cold Blood

A chilling tragedy has struck Umuahia, the Abia State capital, as a mentally unstable man, identified as Ibekwe Augustine James, allegedly murdered his cousin, Chinomso Nwabali James, and her twin children, Moses and Marvelous Chris, before fleeing the scene.
The gruesome act, which has sent shockwaves across the state, saw the lifeless bodies of the innocent twins discovered in shallow graves, brutally dismembered. The suspect, who was reportedly seen dragging his cousin’s corpse in broad daylight, abandoned the body and escaped after an alarm was raised by a family member.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the horrific event was reported to the Central Police Station, Umuahia, by a relative who witnessed the suspect’s disturbing actions.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that Ibekwe Augustine James, who has a history of mental instability, was seen pulling the lifeless body of Chinomso Nwabali James. The family member, shocked by the sight, raised an alarm, prompting the suspect to flee, leaving the victim’s body behind.
Police operatives quickly arrived at the scene and evacuated Chinomso’s corpse to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where doctors confirmed her dead. However, the twins, who were initially declared missing, were later found at 2 a.m. in different shallow graves within the community—brutally murdered and dismembered.
The tragic killing of the mother and her two children has sparked outrage and panic within the community, as residents call for swift justice. The Abia State Police Command has assured the public that all efforts are being made to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
DSP Chinaka confirmed that the remains of the victims have been deposited at the mortuary in the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where an autopsy will be conducted. Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified their search, urging anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.
The shocking nature of the murders has led to growing concerns about the management of individuals with mental health challenges in society. Many have questioned whether the suspect’s mental instability had been previously addressed or if there were warning signs that were ignored.
As investigations continue, the grieving family and the entire Umuahia community remain in deep mourning over the horrific loss of a mother and her innocent twin children.
